Which session will you choose?

Social media measurement, media fragmentation and how to reach your target audience, or media ethics

For our 9:00 a.m. Breakout Session you will have three choices from three exciting speakers to chose from.

Have you been struggling with measuring your social media efforts? If so, Erica Anderson is your woman.

Who is Erica Anderson?

Erica Anderson is a digital strategist and a citizen journalist, and not just any citizen journalist; she was selected to be the Washington D.C. citizen journalist for MTV’s Emmy Award-winning campaign, “Choose or Lose.”  However, her experience and expertise do not stop there – she also became a top-rated CNN iReporter in 2009 and produced a series of web videos for an MSNBC special.

She will answer the questions that a lot of us are still wondering – What is the ROI of social media?  Is there a ROI of social media?   What are some of the basic key performance indicators for your most-used social media tools?  How can you think beyond the numbers when looking at ROI? What is the real weight of smart social media?

Erica America is Erica’s personal brand. You can find her on TwitterDeliciousPosterousFlickrFacebookDIGGCNN iReportMTV THINKSlideshare and more.

Or, have you struggled with media fragmentation and how to break through to reach your target audience?  If so, attend the session by Andy Malis, co-founder and president of MGH, to walk away with lessons learned.

Who is Andy Malis?

Andy Malis is co-founder and president of MGH, Inc., a full-service marketing communications firm headquartered in Maryland.

MGH maintains a diverse client base spanning multiple industries.  Clients include Papa John’s Pizza,, Texas Instruments, The American Psychological Association, Towson University, University of Maryland University College, Ocean City Maryland, Suburban Hospital, The National Aquarium and Smyth Jewelers.

The competition for your target’s attention has never been tougher, and it’s only going to get crazier!  The rapid escalation of media fragmentation has made it nearly impossible to quickly break through and get your message out. Or has it?  Andy will survey the current media landscape, allowing you to see what roles traditional media, new media, and social media play in today’s more-complex than ever communications plans.

Or, has your company been the victim of unethical practices by journalists? Are you wondering how the coverage balance changed, and how it is still the same?  As the teacher of media ethics at Towson University, no one is more qualified than Lisa Miles to talk about this topic.

Who is Lisa Miles?

Award-winning public relations strategist, Lisa Miles, APR, is president of Miles Public Relations, a full service public relations firm in Columbia, Maryland. She has more than 20 years of experience serving national and international clients on a wide range of communications issues. In addition, she is the 2010 President-Elect of PRSA Maryland, a member of the PRSA National Nominating Committee, and a Silver and Bronze Anvil judge. She teaches Media Ethics at Towson University as an adjunct faculty member.

Media ethics – is it oxymoron? In this day and age of 24/7 news coverage, do journalists really abide by a code of media ethics? How does the coverage balance compare to situations in past years, and how does it fit into some of the traditional communications models? Join Lisa Miles, APR, and adjunct faculty member of Towson University’s Mass Communications program, to discuss how the process has changed – and how it remains the same.
