Welcome From PRSA-MD’s New President

This post is by Lisa Miles, APR, PRSA-MD’s President for 2011.

Welcome to 2011!

As the newly elected PRSA Maryland Chapter president, I wanted to welcome you to the Chapter and to share some of the excitement that we have for this year.  We have a dynamic board (THANK YOU) who has each taken on programs or events above and beyond the call of duty, so we’re looking forward to this being a great year.

A couple of items to put on your calendars now:

  • Customer-centric Marketing with Ralph Crosby from Crosby in Annapolis is our first monthly meeting.  It will be held on January 20 from 8:30-10:00 at the University of Baltimore.  Information and registration is located on our PRSA website under events.
  • Our new professionals have re-established their group, and they will be hosting a PR Pros Happy Hour event Thursday, January 27 from 6:00-8:00 pm for happy hour at Meli Patisserie and Bistro in Fells Point. Network with industry experts and newbies in the field. Make connections with hiring managers and exceptional PR talent. A big THANK YOU to IMRE for providing sponsorship for this event and Katie Mercado for organizing the event.  More information is available on our website
  • We listened to your comments and suggestions, and the Best in Maryland Awards event will return to becoming a free-standing event in June.  Stay tuned for more information, but please let Lindsay Muller [lindsaym@imre.com] know if you have any addition information.  We’re in the planning stages for this now.
  • One exciting change that we’re please to announce is that the Chesapeake Conference is potentially going to be open to any member of the mid-Atlantic District, which covers Pennsylvania, Maryland, DC, Delaware and Virginia.  This will be held later this fall and more info to follow.  We received the backing of our Board and the Board of the Mid-Atlantic District within the past couple of days.

At our first Board meeting this year, we spent a large chunk of time talking about programming, what you want to see and what may have been overexposed.  We’re working furiously to get the first half of the programs locked up and out to you so that you can get the dates on your calendar.

And finally, thank you for all of your support.  Many of you were around back in 2005 when I was president the first time, and I can honestly say that I haven’t received the answer of “no” from any members that I’ve asked to volunteer, facilitate a monthly program or just provide input.  This is truly the MARYLAND chapter, so I encourage you to call me or e-mail me with your thoughts, advice and insight.

Here’s to a great 2011, for both the chapter and to you personally.
